WB SET Exam Cut-Off

The cut-off marks for the WB SET exam are generally declared along with the results. WBCSC releases category-wise cut-offs for every subject separately. Candidates who score above the WB SET cutoff marks are named in the WB SET Merit List according to their ranks. WB SET Cutoff vary each year based on factors like the number of candidates, difficulty level of the exam, and the number of vacancies. Here is the minimum cut-off percentage required to clear the exam:

  • For General Category: 40% aggregate marks are required.
  • For OBC/SC/ST/PWD/Transgender: 35% aggregate marks are required.

WB SET 2024 Eligibility Criteria

There are many different eligibility criteria for the WB SET Exam:

  • General/EWS candidates require at least 55% of their Master’s Degree or equivalent to be eligible for the WB SET Exam, while OBC/SC/ST/PwD/Transgender categories candidates require a minimum of 50% in their Master’s Degree or equivalent to be eligible for WB SET Exam.
  • There is no age limit for the WB SET Exam.
  • Candidates pursuing their Master's degree, awaiting final year exam results, or whose qualifying exams have been delayed can apply for the test. However, they will only be eligible for Assistant Professor Positions after passing their Master's degree or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% for OBC Non-creamy layer, SC, ST, PWD, and transgender candidates). They must complete their degree within two years of the SET result, or they will be disqualified.
  • Aspirants who are PhD degree holders whose Master’s had been completed by 19th September 1991(no matter the date of declaration of result) will be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e. from 55% to 50%) for appearing in WB SET Exam.
  • Candidates can only select the subject for paper 2 in the WB SET Exam if that subject is present in their Post-Graduation. If the subject of their Post-Graduation is not included in the list of 33 WB SET subjects, then the candidates may go for the UGC NET/Joint CSIR-UGC Exam conducted twice a year.
  • Candidates are not required to send certificates or documents to WBCSC, not even a printout of their Application Form. However, they should confirm that they meet the eligibility criteria. If WBCSC detects any ineligibility at any stage, the candidate's application will be cancelled, and they may face legal action.
  • Aspirants with a PG Diploma or a certificate from an Indian or foreign university must verify the equivalent of their qualification to a Master’s degree from a recognized Indian university through the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi (www.aiu.ac.in ).
