It is conducted on behalf of the Gujarat state government by Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara. GSET Eligibility Criteria

The Gujarat set determines who is eligible to be considered for the position of Assistant Professor in colleges and universities across Gujarat. To qualify for GSET, a candidate should possess a postgraduate degree in an appropriate subject from an accredited university.

  • Qualifying Degree: Applicants should have a UGC recognized Master’s degree with a minimum of 55% marks (for General/ EWS) or 50% marks (for SC/ST/SEBC-NCL/PwD/Third Gender).
  • Final year Master’s students or awaiting results also can apply, but must achieve the required percentage within 2 years from the date of GSET result.
  • Subject of Examination: Applicants must choose the GSET subject of their post-graduation subject. If their subject is not available in GSET, they have to appear for UGC NET or CSIR NET.
  • Reservation Policy: Gujarat SEBC candidates should submit valid Gujarat SEBC certificate; it is not a Central OBC certificate. Reservations candidates from other states will be treated as a General category.
  • Age Limit: There is no upper age limit for GSET Eligibility as an Assistant Professor.
  • Ph.D. Holders: Master’s degree holders who pass their exam till 19th September, 1991 are eligible to relax by 5% marks up to 55% to 50%.
  • Some Essential Guidelines: Candidates qualified for GSET in a subject can’t reappear for that same subject. Eligibility will be provisional and GSET holds its rights to cancel such eligibility in case of misfit.

GSET Scheme of Examination

GSET exam details indicate that the test is designed to consist of two papers, both comprising objective-type multiple choice questions. Paper 1 is developed to check the teaching and research aptitude of a candidate, while Paper 2 is subject-specific. In case of discrepancy between Gujarati and English versions, the English version shall prevail.

It is compulsory to appear in both papers, because the candidate who fails to appear at Paper-I cannot appear in Paper-II. The Board will not provide for any revaluation or rechecking of the result. The Board will not entertain any correspondence regarding the above. Such guidelines would enable fair, transparent and standardized examinations for all the candidates.

GSET Syllabus Overview

GSET Application Form

GSET application form is available online at the official GSET website.
