UGC NET Exam Overview

The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test, also known as the UGC NET, is an examination conducted in the country to ascertain the eligibility of candidates for the positions of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. UGC NET Eligibility Criteria

For a candidate to appear for the UGC NET Exam 2025, candidates have to fulfill certain educational and age-related requirements:

UGC NET Educational Qualifications

• Candidates must have at least 55% marks in their master’s degree or equivalent examination from recognized universities/Institutes by UGC.
• For candidates belonging to OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Persons with Disability (PwD)/Transgender categories, the minimum marks required are 50%.
• Even those candidates who have appeared for the final year of M.A. or M.Sc. and are waiting for the results can apply. Their eligibility will depend on passing the final exams with the required percentage.

UGC NET Age Limit

• Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): The upper age limit is 30 years on the date of the exam.
• Assistant Professorship: There is no age limit for applying for Assistant Professorship.

UGC NET Exam Pattern

The UGC NET exam 2025 has two papers that are held in one sitting. Both papers consist of multiple-choice questions (MCQs), and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
