NTA UGC NET 2022 Exam OverviewThe National Eligibility Test (NET) commonly referred to as UGC NET or NTA UGC NET Exam, started in the year 1989-90, is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for 81 different subjects. First, let me start by introducing the organisation. UGC (University Grants Commission) was established in 1956 as a statutory body by the Indian Government. Its objectives were to coordinate, determine and maintain the standards of higher education. While, NTA (an Indian Government Agency) was established in November 2017 to conduct entrance examinations for institutes of higher education, nationwide. The NTA NET exam was earlier conducted by the CBSE but from December 2018 onwards it is being conducted by the NTA. It is conducted typically twice a year (June & December Cycles) and more than 5 lakh students appear for the exam each cycle. The exam’s purpose is basically to determine whether you are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor (AP) &/or receive the Junior Research Fellowship award (JRF). Now, to talk a little about the JRF. It is a letter awarded to those candidates that have secured marks greater/equal to the JRF cut-offs in their NTA NET for their respective subjects. The JRF letter is basically a bearer document through which you’ll be able to avail a scholarship while pursuing your M.Phil./Ph.D. With the introduction over, let’s quickly delve into the when and what of UGC NET 2022. NTA UGC NET Exam DatesThe “UGC NET Exam dates” is the most sought-after information by UGC NET aspirants. This perhaps solidifies the reason why the National Testing Agency (NTA) does not give premature details about the NTA NET exam dates, i.e., keeps it reserved and disseminates it in a separate notice after the release of the official notification only. UGC NET Job ProfileNow coming to the topic you’ve all been secretly waiting for. When you choose an exam as difficult as the NTA UGC NET (even more when you’re targeting JRF), it’s obvious to say that you had a picture of your job in your head before applying for the exam. But you might not be aware of the industry standards and that’s what I’ll be discussing in this section. So, let me start by saying that if you manage to qualify for the NTA NET exam, your scope would lie mostly in jobs that are considered mostly academic and/or research-oriented in nature. Such jobs are usually found within the confines of universities and colleges. Now according to your skill sets, you may have the opportunity to teach either of the following batch of students:
Having said that, I’d also like to inform you that after qualifying for the NTA NET, you can also apply for jobs at several PSUs that accept the NET qualification score in their selection process. You can read more details of the UGC NET Job Profile here. UGC NET Eligibility Criteria 2022Eligibility Criteria is a vast topic and has a lot of topics to be discussed. Before we begin you should note that the UGC NET exam can only be taken by Indian nationals. 1) Age EligibilityYour age should be less than 31 years on the first date of the month in which the UGC NET JRF Exam registration process would be concluded i.e., 01.06.2022 (This is applicable for the current examination only). However, there is no Age Limit for Assistant Professorship (AP). 2) Educational Qualification for UGC NET (General)You should have a Master’s Degree from a University/Institution recognized by UGC with a minimum of 55% marks (without rounding off). This will be 50% in the case of SC/ST/PWD/transgender candidates. To know about the updated Eligibility Criteria in detail, read here the complete UGC NET 2022 Eligibility Criteria. UGC NET Application Form 2022Aren’t we all tired of listening to the same old stories from our parents about how they had to walk miles and miles to reach school and we’ve got everything easy in life? While in the broad spectrum that might not be that accurate, but we sure have gotten things a little easier when compared to them. Even though our job to fill the UGC NET Online application form is quite easy as compared to what they had to go through, it still can be a tricky job. I have tried to make it easier for you. I have made a separate blog as to how to apply online for the UGC NET JRF exam without making any mistakes (our generation is a little messier too). The blog linked above will also help you with other details like application fees, the number of applicants registered and appeared, and steps to utilise the correction window. With that let me give you a brief update on the current examination cycle. The UGC NET Notification 2022 was released on April 30, 2022. With its release, the Online Application Form procedure commenced on April 30, 2022, itself, and was supposed to end on 20th May 2022. But a subsequent notification directed the extension of the last date. The Application form link then closed on 30th May 2022. UGC NET Syllabus 2022UGC NET Notification 2022 is out and it has come up with a surprise change in the UGC NET Syllabus 2022. I will brief you about the change, but first get hold of the patter and the major syllabus. The UGC NET comprises of two papers, paper 1 and paper 2. Paper 1 will be a general paper and will be the same for all candidates and Paper 2 will be unique for every subject, meaning that paper 2 for each subject would differ from one another. Paper 1 will have questions from general topics such as Research Aptitude, Reading Comprehension, Communication, People and Environment, Higher Education, Arithmetic Reasoning, Data Interpretation, Teaching Aptitude, ICT, and Indian Logic. As for Paper 2, it shall have questions specific to the subject chosen by the candidate. In the 2022 Notification, it has been announced that the Paper 2 will undergo significant change. There has been an augmentation in the subjects’ section of Paper 2, and the total number subjects has now reached the number 82 from 81. UGC NET 2022 Syllabus for Paper 1 & 2 can be accessed through the link. Ever since NTA has been handed over the responsibility to conduct the examination, the syllabus for NTA UGC NET JRF has changed. Unfortunately for all of you planning to give the exam after the change, the papers conducted after 2018 have certainly been more challenging than before. So, you better buckle up and be prepared for some hard-working days ahead. UGC NET Exam Pattern 2022According to the UGC NET Notification 2022, which came out on April 30th 2022, there is no change in the UGC NET Exam Pattern 2022. What is the paper pattern in 2022? As I have mentioned above, The UGC NET exam comprises two papers. The first is a common/general paper, and the second is a subject-specific paper. I have explained it a bit more in the lines ahead. However, both the papers are to be completed in a time duration of 3 hours, meaning that there is no break between the two papers. Therefore, it is up to the candidate to manage his time between the two papers accordingly. Although, I would advise you to try and finish Paper 1 in a maximum time of 60 minutes, and use the remaining 120 minutes of the total time duration to solve paper 2. I say that because paper 1 has only 50 questions in it, while paper 2 has 100. Anyhow, you should definitely attempt all the questions in the exam as there is no negative marking. So, to reiterate, both the papers differ in their respective exam patterns:
Both the papers are objective in character. I am sure the images above have given you a brief idea, know more about the UGC NET Paper 1 and Paper 2 Exam Pattern here. UGC NET Preparation TipsThe overall level of the UGC NET 2022 exam is on a higher side when compared with other teaching examinations. You should have a proper study program in place whilst preparing for this exam. Also, with NTA coming into the scene, the examination is made even more conceptual. So, you should boost your preparation with our UGC NET Online Coaching. Having an overall strategy and a sectional strategy for this exam will eventually help you to score better. The image below provides a basic outlook for preparation, you can read more about the best preparation strategy and tips for the UGC NET exam here.
UGC NET Mock Test & BooksOkay, so from the very start, let me inform you that reading from the right books would be essential for your preparation, also, along with reading from the right books you’d need to solve the various mock tests that are available for the NTA NET exam. Now, when I say right books, I say it because I do not want you to waste your time reading from whichever random book you might happen to chance upon. There are several books in the market that shall help you prepare for the UGC NET in the most consolidated and efficient manner. I have suggested a list of the most relevant books here. So, yeah that sorts the point about right books. Talking about Mock tests next, you should know that your preparation strategy would be useless without mock tests. Basically, mock tests are the anchors on which your preparation would rely. They would help you to test yourself from time to time and reveal your weaknesses to you. That way you’d be able to work upon and eliminate them. Now, to combine both the elements of this section, I’d say that the best preparation strategy for the UGC NET would be one where, preparing from the right books and solving mocks, go hand in hand. Go ahead, try my personally designed free Mock Tests here. UGC NET Free Study MaterialI provide a lot of free study material for both UGC NET Paper 1 & Paper 2. The intention is to help you in your preparation, to give you a good idea about the exam, and also to allow you the opportunity to judge my course content. The admit card is an extremely important document that you’d have to carry to your exam hall, without which you wouldn’t be granted entry. That’s because it is taken to be the only document ratifying your eligibility to sit for the exam on the day of the same, by the NTA. With that, let me come straight to the admit card update with respect To the UGC Net 2022. Since the UGC NET December 2021 and June 2022 (Merged Cycles) is taking place in two phases viz, Phase I and Phase II, hence, the admit card will also be released in two parts. That said, the admit card has important details about you such as your name and application number, your subject, date of exam, name and address of the exam centre, important instructions, and time & shift of exam. Check all the important details related to the UGC NET Admit Card and the steps to download it. UGC NET Previous Year Question PapersIt is essential to attempt UGC NET previous year question papers to be familiar with the type and level of the questions asked in the exam. Thus, solving the previous years’ question papers would definitely increase your chances of clearing the exam. Having said that the best way to use the previous years’ papers is to randomly solve one, before actually beginning your preparation. That way you will be able to understand your weak areas better. Then you can start your prep with an extra emphasis on your weak points. After having done so, you can go on to solve another previous year paper to weed out further the weak spots in your prep and work on eliminating them. Carry on with this process till you are confident that there aren’t any more weak spots left in your preparation. Lastly, if you are lucky, you might just chance upon certain questions in your actual NTA NET exam, which you had already solved before in the previous year question papers. In the blog linked below, we have provided past year papers with a detailed solution. You can go through the Past Year Question Papers of NTA UGC NET (2009 – 2021). UGC NET Cut Off 2022The Cut off is a component that comes into existence only after the culmination of exam. The UGC NET 2022 Exam process has just started & the exam dates have been released by NTA recently but the exam is still scheduled to be conducted. Therefore, having a discussion on the UGC NET Cut off 2022 this early, would be trivial. This will be useful after the exam have happened and we’d have UGC NET exam analysis in front of us. Till then, get idea about what degree of preparation you need, from the previous years’ cut off, provided below. An idea of the cut off in addition to the difficulty level of the exam will help you set your target marks for the exam and also the minimum number of questions that must be correct. Also, to give an idea of the NTA NET December 2020 and June 2021 (Merged Cycles) cutoff for the papers of Commerce and Management, I have listed the table below:

UGC NET Exam AnalysisNow that you know an overview of almost everything there is to know about the UGC NET exam, from the exam pattern to the syllabus, from the application process to the preparation tips, it’s time to learn about how to analyse the previous year papers of NTA NET. Now, you must be thinking, why does one need to analyze something that has already happened in the past? Well, I say, to draw a projection of the future, exam analysis of the past is absolutely imperative. To put it in terms of the UGC NET exam analysis of the previous year exams is of paramount importance, if one is to be prepared for the upcoming exam. Therefore, after preparing for the exam, and solving all the mock tests and previous year papers, do not forget to analyze the various aspects of the same. For example, go through the previous year papers of the UGC NET to understand the types of questions that were asked, compare and get an idea about the difference in the difficulty levels of the various sections of the paper over the years, etc. Doing so will increase your preparedness and confidence. To give you a gist of this, let me resort to telling you that the UGC NET Exam Analysis is an after-exam practice. This act is necessary as it gives present and potential candidates an idea about the NTA NET Exam level. But you should still seek out the general information regarding the NTA NET Result. And allow me to provide you with exactly that, with the help of 2021 exam cycle. Let us now take a look at the UGC NET job profile.
Now coming to the topic you’ve all been secretly waiting for.
Undergraduate level students
Professional students
Postdoctoral fellows
Having said that, I’d also like to inform you that after qualifying for the NTA NET, you can also apply for jobs at several PSUs that accept the NET qualification score in their selection process.
You can read more details of the UGC NET Job Profile here.
Eligibility Criteria is a vast topic and has a lot of topics to be discussed.
Before we begin you should note that the UGC NET exam can only be taken by Indian nationals.
Your age should be less than 31 years on the first date of the month in which the UGC NET JRF Exam registration process would be concluded i.e., 01.06.2022 (This is applicable for the current examination only).
However, there is no Age Limit for Assistant Professorship (AP).
You should have a Master’s Degree from a University/Institution recognized by UGC with a minimum of 55% marks (without rounding off). This will be 50% in the case of SC/ST/PWD/transgender candidates.
To know about the updated Eligibility Criteria in detail, read here the complete UGC NET 2022 Eligibility Criteria.
Aren’t we all tired of listening to the same old stories from our parents about how they had to walk miles and miles to reach school and we’ve got everything easy in life?
UGC NET Notification 2022 is out and it has come up with a surprise change in the UGC NET Syllabus 2022.
According to the UGC NET Notification 2022, which came out on April 30th 2022, there is no change in the UGC NET Exam Pattern 2022.
Paper 1 – Same for all Subjects
Paper 2 – Subject Specific
Both the papers are objective in character. I am sure the images above have given you a brief idea, know more about the UGC NET Paper 1 and Paper 2 Exam Pattern here.
The overall level of the UGC NET 2022 exam is on a higher side when compared with other teaching examinations.
Okay, so from the very start, let me inform you that reading from the right books would be essential for your preparation, also, along with reading from the right books you’d need to solve the various mock tests that are available for the NTA NET exam.
I provide a lot of free study material for both UGC NET Paper 1 & Paper 2.

It is essential to attempt UGC NET previous year question papers to be familiar with the type and level of the questions asked in the exam.
The Cut off is a component that comes into existence only after the culmination of exam.

Now that you know an overview of almost everything there is to know about the UGC NET exam, from the exam pattern to the syllabus, from the application process to the preparation tips, it’s time to learn about how to analyse the previous year papers of NTA NET.
As the UGC NET 2022 Examination is yet to take place, therefore, there is no point in talking about the UGC NET Result 2022 at this stage.
But you should still seek out the general information regarding the NTA NET Result. And allow me to provide you with exactly that, with the help of 2021 exam cycle.
The official result of UGC NET is announced roughly a month after the exam on the official website of NTA for Results.
However, due to the dreadful pandemic situation, the UGC NET December 2020 & June 2021 exams were merged. The result for the same had been announced on 19th February 2022 by NTA.
You may use my blog here to know more about the result and the steps to check it.
Before NTA announces the UGC NET result, it releases the provisional answer key and also opens a brief window with an option to challenge the answer key.
While the answer key is a key document, but at this point when the exam is still scheduled to be conducted, there is no true relevance of the provisional and final answer key 2022 for now, as it does not exist at the moment.
However, when it comes to the answer key of previous year’s cycle, the NTA released the provisional answer key for the UGC NET December 2020 & June 2021 (merged) exams on 21st January 2022.
Following the provisional Answer Key, just before the declaration of the final result, NTA published the Final Answer Key on its website.
Know more about the answer key updates and the process to challenge them.
I hope by the end of this blog, you’ve probably got an overview of what the UGC NET JRF exam is all about. If you’re one of the determined kids, you must be having like a bunch of additional links opened on your browser that I have provided in this blog for detailed information.
